A Study on Air borne Microbes Contamination in Nosocomical Air

Abstract
The levels of airborne microbes contamination in various areas of two hospitals; Hospital "A" being of permanent structure and Hospital "B" being of temporary structure were explosed during the period from April 21 to August 5, 1964, according to R.Koch¢¥s method for quantitative sampling of airborne bacterial.
As a result of this study, the following conclusions were obtained:
1. There was a significant difference in airborne bacterial counts according to the hospital structures and environmetal conditions.
2. The intramural airborne bacterial counts in "B" Hospital were 47.2%(in spring) and 53.7%(in summer) more than those of "A" Hospital (confidence coefficient: P<0.001)
3. The airborne bacterial counts varied according to seasonal vicissitude.
(a) In the case of "A" Hospital, mean number of colonies per plate in summer was 20.5% more than that in spring.
(b) In the case of "B" Hospital, mean number of colonies per plate in summer was 25.8% more than that in spring.
4. The difference of airborne bacterial counts at different times of the days seemed to be due to the different amount of movement of persons.
5. The results of sampling demonstrated that 3.4% of the area in "A" hospital surpassed the permissible dose and 20.5% in "B" hospital.
6. The permissible dose of airborne bacterial counts should be included in the recommendation for improving hospital management, so that periodical checking and control could be made possible.
